A cost center is a reporting dimension for the part of the organisation that spends money, such as a department or team. It has no workflow of its own. In the standard product only expense claims put a cost center on the ledger: when a claim posts, each expense journal line takes the claim line's cost center, or the claim's when the line has none, while the input GST, employee payable and bank lines carry none. Manual journals, invoices, bills, payments, payroll and expense vouchers post without a cost center, and an expense advance records one for reference only. Period balances are kept per cost center, so the Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Financial Ratios and Risk Ratios statements can be compared by cost centre, with at most 12 columns plus a Total. Reversing a posted journal does not copy the cost center onto the reversal lines. Maintained in the Finance Setup app under Company Structure and in the Expense List app under Dimensions.
