A consolidation group is a named set of finance business units that is read as one reporting scope, so a statement can cover several divisions together without the others. It is not a second set of books: a statement run for a group reads the same posted balances, keeping only postings whose business unit is a member, so postings with no business unit are never part of a group's figures. Members are added on the group's Members tab. A group with no member business unit makes any statement or publish run against it fail with 'Consolidation group has no business units.' The standard statement screens do not offer a group; it is used by the Consolation Group field on a published statement (Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet or Trial Balance) and by the consolidationGroupId argument of the fiscal year statement actions in the data API. No seeded app lists the entity, so an administrator adds it to an app first.
